British Teen Courtney Hadwin Earned Herself Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer On AGT 2018
A 13-year-old girl, Courtney Hadwin from County Durham has earned herself Howie Mandel’s golden buzzer after she wowed the judges of America’s Got Talent 2018 on Tuesday’s episode of the talent show. She is now running for the $1 million prize money on the NBC show as she’ll go straight to the live shows.
Courtney had presented herself with a shy demeanour and was nervous before her performance. No one had thought that her performance would be overwhelming. But when she performed a high-octane version of Hard to Handle, she wowed everyone in the auditorium.
According to Courtney, winning the golden buzzer from Howie was more than she “could have ever dreamed.” She sparked to life with her Steven Tyler-esque voice and jerky dance moves. Everone in the auditorium left open-mouthed with surprise, and they couldn’t believe their eyes and ears. She rocked the stage, finished the performance with a standing ovation and bagged herself the golden buzzer.
Judge Simon Cowell exclaimed:
“Bloody hell, Courtney!”
He even described her as a ‘lion’ when she performs. Judge Howie went mesmerized and went on to liken the British teen to a music legend, Janis Joplin. He told:
“You are not from this era. You’re from a whole different era. And I’m a huge Janis Joplin fan and there’s a story — if you’ve ever watched the documentary — Clive Davis, he goes to the Monterey Pop Festival and he sees this young girl that nobody’s ever seen before, that nobody knows.
He continued:
It was the first time that Janis Joplin got signed and that changed her life. I’m not Clive Davis, I’m Howie Mandel, and I can’t sign you to a record deal. The only thing I can do for you, young lady, is give you…”
