On 6th August this year, BBC radio station had lost one of their presenters, who worked for BBC Radio Shropshire for 20 years.
The 41-year-old presenter, Vicki Archer had left her show mid-way through and hanged herself in the loft after returning to her Shrewsbury home on 6th August, an inquest has heard.
Miss Archer, who was described as a wonderful mother of three, was found dead in the loft by her step-father, Lee Holyoake, three hours after she left her show. Paramedics had pronounced her “dead” soon after their arrival.
The Coroner for Shropshire, Wrekin, and Telford, John Ellery gave a conclusion of suicide after the inquest into Archer’s death at Shirehall on 5th December.
Who was Vicki Archer?
Victoria “Vicki” Archer was a presenter at the afternoon drivetime show for BBC Radio Shropshire, which she co-hosted with Adam Green since 2010. She was a “great presenter and journalist,” as described by the BBC.
Archer also had a career in commercial radio as an event host and a voiceover artist. She also presented ‘Magic Love’ on the Magic Radio network. She had even worked at Century FM and West Yorkshire radio station The Pulse.
In 2011, she became a Shrewsbury Town FC fan after her radio co-host Adam took her to a match.
Archer loved the fact that she kept discovering the country’s secrets. She grew up and died in Shropshire.
Vicki Archer Cause of Death
Archer had made two previous attempts on her life and had a history of depression.
On 6th August, Miss Archer was co-hosting the 3-7pm BBC Radio Shropshire show with her radio-host Adam. But she abruptly went off the drivetime show shortly before 5 pm.
She even emailed a colleague at BBC Radio Shropshire, saying she needed “a break” and was feeling “upset” before returning to her home on Woodcote Way, in Shrewsbury.
Her 64-year-old step-father, Lee Holyoake, discovered her “hanging” body at around 8.15 pm in the loft of her home. He along with her mum Beryl, 73, had gone outside to fix her cooker. He performed CPR until paramedics arrived and announced her death.
On 5th December, after the inquest, Coroner John Ellery concluded Archer died as a result of suicide.
Dr. Joanna Stafford, who carried out the post-mortem, said:
“The cause of death was hanging.”
Vicki Archer Funeral
Family and close friends attended Archer’s funeral ceremony at Shrewsbury Crematorium on 30th August. A celebration of Archer’s life was planned for later in the year.
As Archer’s family has asked for privacy, we’d like to respect their decision.
May her soul rest in peace! Our condolences are with her children and family. Archer is now survived by her three children.
Who was Vicki Archer Husband?
Vicki was a married woman. She was married to her husband, Gavin Hogarth. As she kept her life extremely low-key, it is still unknown if she was still together with her husband at the time of her death.
Her ex-husband, David, father of her three children, also attended the inquest. She was a mother of her two daughters, Daisy and Rose, and one son, Morgan.
Ms. Archer’s family said in a statement:
“Vicki was a much-loved daughter and mother as well as being an extremely talented broadcaster.”
“We are still coming to terms with her tragic loss so would ask that people respect our privacy and leave us alone to grieve as a family.”
