On December 30, 2017, Khabib welcomed his second child; a son Mohammed, on the day of his fight against Edson Barboza. When asked “whether the birth of his son motivated him on the fight,” Khabib replied to RT Sport:
Yes, this was a big motivation for me. I became a father for the second time, and he was born on the day of my fight. When I was going to the cage I was thinking about it. My son is going to watch my fights (later on) and it gave me a big motivation.

Born in the year 1988 as the second child of his parents in the village of Sildi in Tsumadinsky District, Russia, Khabib spent most of his childhood in the state capital Makhachkala. His father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov is also an MMA fighter who fights in the Welterweight division of the PFL, Professional Fighters League. Nothing is known about his mother, but he has two other siblings: a younger sister Amina and older brother Magomed.

Khabib’s father’s family moved to Kirovaul from Sildi, where his father, Abdulmanap opened a gym in the ground floor of their two-story building. Watching other students training at the gym, Khabib was fascinated by the sport and his interest in martial arts began to cherish.
Under his father’s tutorship, Khabib Nurmagomedov started learning martial arts and wrestling at an early age of six. At the age of 15, Khabib had already trained in wrestling and judo; all thanks to his father’s tutelage after moving to Makhachkala. He then started training in combat sambo at the age of 17.
Khabib Nurmagomedov made his first professional MMA debut in September 2008 in Russia and consecutively won four matches by October the same year.
