Jyotiraditya Scindia

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is an Indian Politician and an important member of the Indian National Congress. He is from the Scindia family that once ruled in Gwalior and is a former member of parliament. Scindia is representing the Guna constituency in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Furthermore, Jyotiraditya is also a nominal Maharaja of Gwalior. Apart from being a Congress Leader he also has been a Union Cabinet Minister in Manmohan Singh’s government.

In 2002, Jyotiraditya was elected to Lok Sabha from the Guna constituency of Madhya Pradesh. He defeated Harivallabh Shukla and elected to the Parliament in 2004. In 2007, Scindia became the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology while he was inducted into Union Cabinet. Also, he was made the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in 2009 Lok Shaba Election. Besides this, the Cabinet re-shuffle was held in 2012 and he became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power. In the General Election of 2014, Jyotiraditya defeated Jaibhansingh pawaiya of BJP and was elected to 16^th Lok Shaba.

Moreover, Scindia is the President of the Board of Governors of Scindia School, Gwalior. The school was founded in 1987 for the education of India’s princes and nobles by his great grandfather, Madho Rao Scindia. Furthermore, he has been the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA).

Jyotiraditya Scindia was born on 1 January 1971 in Bombay, Maharastra, India in a royal Scindia family. Also, he was allowed to hold the titles and privileges like other princes of India whereas his grandfather Jivajirao Scindia was the last Maharaja of the princely state of Gwalior. Scindia is 49 years old. Furthermore, he derived his primary education from Campion School, Mumbai and completed from Doon School, Deharadun.

He enrolled at Harvard University for his higher education and graduated in Economics in 1993. Scindia finished his MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2001. And, his mother Madhavi Raje Scindia is the daughter of Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, prince of Nepal.

Furthermore, his sister’s name is Chitrangada Raje Scindia. Also, she wedded Vikramaditya Singh (Prince of Kashmir) on 11 December 1987.

Controversies

• Jyotiraditya filed a legal notice against BJP Leader, Nand Kumar Singh Chouhan over the accusation that a hospital in Madhya Pradesh which was inaugurated by Dalit BJP MLA, Gopal Jatav was sanctified by sprinkling Gangajal just before entering to the hospital.
• Also, he lodged a legal claim over his late father’s property worth about ₹20,000 crores.
