Huntress frontwoman Jil Janus has died of apparent suicide at the age of 43. A long-time sufferer of mental illness, Janus took her own life outside of Portland, Oregon on 14th August, Tuesday, her family and band members have confirmed.

Janus had spoken publicly about such challenges earlier so that she could guide others to address and prevail over their mental illness. She began to show signs at the age of thirteen and struggled through high school. At the age of 20, she was diagnosed with bipolar disease.

The band confirmed Janus’ death in a Facebook post that says:

“It is with crushed hearts that we announce that Jill Janus—frontwoman for the California heavy metal band Huntress—passed away on Tuesday, August 14.”

Her boyfriend and Huntress bandmate, Blake Meahl also paid tribute to his dearest friend, saying:

Jill Janus and I spent 9 years together creating a home, having a family and building our passion project Huntress. The devastation of knowing I will never see her again is the most gutting emotion I have ever experienced.

He further added:

Baby, I hope you have found the peace that you couldn’t find on this planet. I miss you so much and will always carry a piece of you in my heart. See you on Aldebaran.
