In January 2017, Makonnen opened up about his sexuality as gay via Twitter. The news got mixed responses with many rappers supporting him, but some were disappointed with him. During an interview with The Rolling Stone in February 2017, American Hip-hip Trio Migos, consisting of Offset, Takeoff, and Quavo, were not happy with Makonnen’s act. However, the trio Migos issued an apology later stating that their comments were misinterpreted and had no issues with sexual preferences.
