Cole’s professional career started after broadcasting hockey. He first broadcasted on VOCM radio in St.john’s, Newfoundland. After this, in 1969 he started commentating on CBC radio. In 1973 when HNIC expanded its coverage. After HNIC expand Cole moved to television. Moreover, Cole used to broadcast at least one game in every Stanely Cup Finals till 2008. Later, he replaced by Canadian Sportscaster Jim Hughson. Besides this, Bob has also done broadcasting of the 1998 Olympic Games. That held in Nagano, Japan.

Sportsnet announced Cole’s last season with HNIC on 27th September 2018. Bob Cole’s comments on the second goal of the game by Joe Sakic in the 2002 Winter Olympic Gold Medal.
